OK, as you know, I was already an iPhone convert. But now I've finally got one of my own, I really DO like it!
This is the first mobile device which has actually had me using email when out and about. It took a while to set things up my account properly and to my liking, but now I quite happily check and create emails whether I'm in the office or out.
Having a really good "sat nav" style mapping application in the iPhone has proven to be really useful (especially when trying to track down a new client's premises, or finding somewhere good to eat when in an unknown area).
Even the web access is good (again, I never previously found the mobile internet experience worthwhile). I quite happily look things up on the iPhone and it has become my permanent companion. Very geeky.
But what about the downsides?
OK, having used it for a while now, there ARE a couple of niggles...
Firstly, deleting emails has to be done individually (there's no bulk delete). This can be a bit tedious. I work around it by leaving unwanted messages until I get back in the office and deleting them in Outlook.
Typing anything longer than a quick response can be tricky with the little keypad. It's OK in web mode, as you can rotate the iPhone to landscape mode and the keypad is then larger. But for emails, you have to get used to typing on the little pad. There's nothing much Apple could've done here - it's as good as it could be, I think.
The calendar could do with an easy facility to go to a specific date. Getting to dates within a few months either side of today is easy, but if you have to make appointments a long time in advance, you need to switch to Month view and flick through a month at a time. Probably not a problem for many folks, though.
You know what? Those are my only real beefs so far. I think that says it all for now.
Go on, you know you want one...! ![]()
